Sustainability
One of the mandates of the research park we reside in is sustainable building design and operation.
The largest consumption of wasted power in any typical Data Centre is the removal of unwanted heat. BlackSun uses a closed-loop water-based cooling system that continually recycles and removes excess heat through a heat exchange, which is partially utilized to heat our office. The system pumps are estimated to be 1000 times lower wattage than traditional means of heat removal through electrically expensive compression techniques. What is New at BlackSun? We have recently integrated our systems into a powerful Virtual Environment, and reduced our heat load by 30%, and our power bill by 50%!
During most of the Saskatchewan's cooler temperate months, the natural Canadian arctic air is naturally taking the heat from our cold air exchangers. This combined with our low risk weather (and earthquake free zone) make it one of the best (and most eco-friendly) places in North America to house a data centre!
